Common Questions
Engineering and procurement questions we hear most often. For project-specific guidance, send your application details via RFQ.
Centrifugal: low cost, high flow, low pressure, low viscosity. Good for CIP, water, clean fluids. Positive-displacement: high pressure, viscous fluids, shear-sensitive.
For dairy products (yogurt, cream): lobe pumps preserve product structure. For CIP: centrifugal is standard.
Required: flow rate (m³/h), differential head (m), fluid properties (viscosity, density, temperature), suction conditions (NPSH available).
Calculate system head curve including pipe losses, valves, equipment. Pump operating point should be at 70-90% of best efficiency point (BEP).
Single mechanical seal with EPDM elastomers is standard for water-like fluids. For abrasive/corrosive media, double mechanical seal with flush plan.
For SIP, specify steam-rated seals (Viton or steam-rated EPDM). For pharma, USP Class VI elastomers. Specify with RFQ.
No — running dry destroys mechanical seal within minutes. Always confirm prime before starting. Install low-level interlocks if dry-run risk exists.
For self-priming applications, specify side-channel pumps or include priming line. For empty-line starts, AODD pumps are dry-run safe.
Standard pumps are not ATEX certified. For hazardous areas (Zone 1/2), specify ATEX motors, instrumentation and accessories.
Mechanical seal selection critical — single seal may not be acceptable for flammable media. Provide hazard classification with RFQ.
Net Positive Suction Head — the pressure available at pump suction. Must exceed pump NPSH required to prevent cavitation.
For hot fluids or low suction pressure, NPSH critical. Cavitation damages impeller and seal. Specify suction conditions with RFQ.
Standard: 3.1 MTR for wetted parts, FDA compliance for elastomers, motor specifications, performance test curve.
Optional: ATEX certificates, BPE compliance, custom impeller design, vibration test, full quality dossier.
